The New Idea... a test in efficiency.
User Rating: / 0

I wanted to see if i could do it. If this ideal people have of the 'work world' is in the eye of the beholder, then let's put it to the test. How much can I really do?

For fun, I went for a job interview a while ago at a head hunter. I didn't need the job, because my dog company is doing well. However, I wanted something out of the ordinary to do. Because of my experience in owning a company, I was pointed towards another start-up product company. Though it had been conceptualized about 4 years ago, I decided it might be nice to get insurance and I saw a possibility for my wife to stay home with the baby... I decided to take it. The company has a lot to offer as I help them grow. I figure it's a pet project of mine that I get 60k from; not a real job... just something fun while my other adventures grow.

Through a bit of rough turmoil, I have subcontracted out all my jobs and I am presently(915pm) doing some double duty in my dog company. Office work is the bitch, but I have to trust others to do it. I don't. I've been in too many offices where people just screw up SIMPLY because they're not paid enough, thus don't care enough to do a decent job.

In talking with this new company, I requested 60k per year (never making more than 35k @ other officey jobs) and I wanted to be the director of marketing. In the end, i have a corner office... I'm called either a VP of Marketing or a Director of Marketing(I've been there 3 days and my title hasn't set in yet. I'm just the new guy in charge of the marketing department.) Unfortunately, I wasn't able to barter a 'work from home' which I was told would happen by the head hunter, nor did I get a % of the company.

Interestingly enough, I have thus far been able to walk from my other company and only spend about 4 hours on it in the last 3 days. (Compared to the 10 per day I'd spend before.... doing what? i dunno, i'm doing the same now as I did before. Just more condensed. I'm forcing myself to be efficient.)

Efficiency is how to play the game. Smart efficiency.

Qutting the 9-5: It CAN be done... so far.
User Rating: / 0

My pet services business is still running and despite a few small issues over the last 3 weeks, it is running alright. Knock on wood.

We had: an employee get in an accident with a company vehicle, an employee quit, hired 1 subcontractor... they are leaving after 2 weeks due to family issues and timing; and I mismanaged my payroll, thus making the income incredibly shorted from where it should be. I over compensated.

With that said, I did manage to squeeze in a few hours over the weekend of 'bonus' work with my company. (about 9 hours over saturday and sunday.) In that time, I billed out about 10k for future and past services, so I feel it was beneficial.

What am I doing with my time?

I decided to prove I could run a successful company AND have a full-time job. I got a job an hour from my house as a Director of Marketing for a smaller sister company of a multi-million dollar firm. Simply put, I went to a head hunter about a year ago and a few weeks ago they came to me with my 'perfect' position. Head hunters are autonomous for lying about positions to fill their needs, so I took it with a grain of salt. I figured it would be a prime opportunity to do some networking and submurge myself further into small companies. I'd like to add them to my 'list of companies I've grown from nothing to multi-millions.'

--> Just for fun, I've also been doing some small business consulting on my way to and from work. ($125 per session(usually about an hour). I've been helping small pet businesses get off the ground and get their business going. I say I charge 125, but I figure if they're willing to pay that... I give them a 25 dollar discount (down to 100 per hour), in hopes they'll A) come back. B) tell their friends C) get a really positive feeling from me and TELL THEIR FRIENDS. D) spread my good will E) befriend and build a network of knowledgeable sitters /walkers I can summon later to see if they're interested in our 'master' plan... whatever it may be. F) use them to bounce ideas off to see if the idea would work right in their area.

Life couldnt' be better right now business wise. It's time to focus on family once again.

Some people have thought my other business is doing horrible so I really need a job. It's not true and I feel great about it.

Quitting the 9-5: The Step Backwards to Financial Freedom

The goal I have had since I quit my 9-5 was to build a successful business from scratch so that it would run itself and I could step out and have the income. I've gotten close a few times, but the company just doesn't make enough money. It's 2.5 years later and I am ready to call it quits. I wake up everyday dreading this awesome company I have made... so it is time to sell and move on. Immediately, daily stresses come in. If I sell it, I will only make enough to live for about 6 months without a job. (We just paid down our credit w/our savings, so our savings is next to nothing.)Image
Do I take the risk in hopes of starting something fantastic quickly? Not a get rich quick, but a substantial business that just takes off? Is it doable? Can it realistically be done? The move terrifies me, but I have done it before.
Luckly, in all these struggles, I found 'The 4 Hour Work Week.' Should I categorize these books like most people do and say they only preach to their own choir? They're full of hooey and hopeful ideas that fewer than 1% of people can attain? (Words of my mother) OR do I say, 'They did it and I will too. Their path can't be as hard because it's already been paved!'
I have recently finished reading the 4 Hour Work Week, by Timothy Ferriss. Basically, it teaches you how to minimize your work through extreme efficiency. It's an excellent book and I look forward to enabling his New Rich points of view. The book talks about how to sub contract EVERYTHING and live life abroad or just retire. Life is too short for binge vacations, enjoy life, you're here to do what you want, so why spend the best years of your life working? He goes through the steps on how to remove yourself from the day to day and keep it running. The book is close to genius from the readers point of view and I hope to see it come into action within my own life soon

Basically Timothy Ferriss created a few different companies one of which is:

Using real knowledge and people he knew, he created this product with great marketing. He is living the life of the New Rich. Completely Passive Income.
